We have had a number of special programs this summer, among them our annual Friend Day which was held at the Stephens Brook School. We also had our VBS program and the VBS closing program on a Sunday morning. Following that was the very special evening with Robert Rogers. How wonderful it was to see the sanctuary packed out on a Sunday evening. Then came the second visit of Sue Thomas the deaf former FBI agent. She has a way of blessing us every time she comes. We now look forward to another “Friend Day.” On
Sunday October 3, at our 9:00 AM service Ernie Couch and Revival will be ministering to us.
FRIENDS, FRIENDS AND MORE FRIENDS
The Lord has blessed us in many ways over the last few months. One of the special blessings for me has been to see the large number of visitors who have been attending both our regular and special services.
We now look forward to another “Friend Day.” On Sunday October 3, at our 9:00 AM service Ernie Couch and Revival will be ministering to us.
From north to south, east to west, all across the country Ernie Couch & Revival is undoubtedly one of the most exciting groups in gospel music today! EC&R as they are commonly known, is high energy in motion featuring a sound reflective of the diverse musical heritage that has made Nashville internationally famous. The group's unique blend of traditional, country, and contemporary gospel music speaks to people of all ages and all walks of life.
The group strives professionally to offer diversity in their music and performance, reaching out to all musical tastes. This is evident in the many opportunities they have had to work with other legends in various genres of music ranging from George Beverly Shea to George Jones, from Petra to Boots Randolph, not to mention Jake Hess and James Blackwood, to name a few. EC&R is not only professional but genuine too and bring both aspects to their music and profession
Ernie Couch, himself, the leader of the group is a very interesting personality. Known in the industry as, "The P.T. Barnum of Gospel Music," Ernie started piano lessons at age six. At nine, he began playing and singing professionally. By twelve he was singing gospel music as a regular on a local weekly kiddies television show. Age fifteen found him making is first recording, and by sixteen he began playing for a local quartet, the Chapelairs. In his later teens he worked with such regional groups as the Cliff Lawson Ozark Gospel Trio in Kansas and the Travelers Quartet out of Tulsa, OK. At twenty Ernie recorded his first full-length project. After relocating to Nashville he worked for some time with the Plainsmen Quartet prior to forming the Ernie Couch and Revival group.
Besides Ernie, the group is made up of three other singers and instrumentalists. They are Ernie’s son Jason, the Texan Mat Chaffin and the Floridian Joe Cox. The group is currently on its New England tour which will finish on Oct 3. They then will head off to Colorado and a western tour.
What a wonderful opportunity it is to have them here with us. We must understand, though, that their ministry here is far more than entertainment. They come to share the gospel. Music can be a wonderful platform for evangelism. They will be announcing the plain gospel of Jesus Christ. In order that our purpose in bringing them be fulfilled it is vital that we invite our friends especially those who will benefit from hearing the gospel.
So I encourage you to pray faithfully for this concert and invite your friends. We have a very blessed time in store for us that day. Again, the concert will take place here at the Bridgton Alliance Church on Sunday, Oct. 3 at 9:00 AM. There of course will be no admission charge but a love offering will be taken.
